The best locations to produce Australia's best varietal wine: that was what legendary Californian wine pioneer Robert Mondavi sought and found in the then still unknown Margaret River area at the beginning of the 1970s and led to the construction of the Leeuwin winery in 1977 under the leadership of Denis and Tricia Horgan (with Mondavi as consultant). Bob's choice was already evident in 1980, when the Artist Series Chardonnay received the highest ratings from Decanter magazine.
