About the wine
From the 14th to the 19th century, the Palio, a famous horse competition, took place in Asti, the most important town in Monferrato. Horses and jockeys ran along Contrada Maestra, the city's main street, and the townspeople celebrated with a glass of Barbera.

Tasting note
The most authentic expression of Barbera, a grape variety that was cultivated in Monferrato as early as the 6th century. It was cultivated in the 19th century. Aged in stainless steel tanks, Contrada Maestra brings out Barbera's primary aromas, including cherry, orange peel, plum, wild berries and violets. The color is an intense ruby red and the nose is particularly winey and persistent. On the palate, it is fresh, pleasant and drinkable. With its low tannins and high acidity, Barbera is one of the most pleasure-friendly wines of all.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with agnolotti with meat sauce, grill, cod, salmon and cooked meat.
