Tuscany And Wine

Tuscany is considered one of the most renowned and popular wine regions in Europe. The region is especially known for its dry, rich red wines, almost all of which contain the Sangiovese grape variety (85% of the region's total red wine) - often found pure, sometimes accompanied by a little Cabernet or Merlot. The quality ranges from simple everyday wines with a good price-quality ratio to the so-called «Supertoscans» such as Cepparello or Tignanello, or even the world-famous 100-parker-point wines such as Sassicaia, Solaia, Masseto or Cerretalto. The white wines are still somewhat in the shadow of the much more widespread red wines. Internationally famous are the dry, harmonious Vernaccias from the DOCG San Gimignano (for example, from Il Colomabio di Santachiara), which is grown north of Siena. Various Vermentino-based wines are also becoming increasingly popular. Trebbiano (Ugni Blanc) is the most widely grown white wine grape in the region.
