Nero d'Avola

The taste of Sicily

The DOC growing region of Avola, is located in the southeast corner of Sicily and this is where the grape variety Nero d'Avola grows. This grape is often called «The Sicilian prince» because, despite regular temperatures above 40°, it is able to produce a quality wine that deserves the status of Ruler of the Wines on the Mediterranean island. Nero d'Avola is usually blended (mixed) with wine from the Frappato grape, which is also Sicilian. Recently, however, international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah have also been used for this purpose.

Despite difficult climatic conditions, the Nero d’Avola grape survives quite well in Sicily - and not only that: it produces a balanced and elegant wine that delights the taste buds of its drinker with its fine tannins and fruit aromas of plums or mulberries. Paired with aged cheeses, all kinds of meats and cold cuts (grilled or not) and, of course, with Italian specialties such as Brasato, you will enjoy Nero d'Avola at its best.
