Bodega El Coto de Rioja is located – you guessed it – in the renowned wine region of La Rioja in northeastern Spain. The winery was founded in 1970 by passionate wine connoisseurs and grew considerably between 1990 and 1997. Today, the area where the Bodega El Coto estate and its vines stretch out is one of the largest wineries in La Rioja. The La Rioja wine region is protected by the Spanish D.O.Ca (Denominación de Origen Calificada) seal.
La Rioja can be divided into three climatically distinct areas: Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Baja. Traditionally, a Rioja wine contains a blend of grapes from all three regions. This is no different for the products from El Coto de Rioja: vines are grown in all three sub-regions for Bodega El Coto de Rioja; the harvest is then processed in the company's own winery at its headquarters in Oyòn.
