About the wine
Weingut Dr. Loosen has been family-owned for over 200 years. Ernst Loosen, who has been running the winery since 1988, quickly recognized the great potential of the vineyards with 60 to 100 year old root-true vines in the most famous vineyards in the Middle Moselle. All six main vineyards of Dr. Loosen were designated Grosse Lage in 1868. Within the estate, this classification is now deliberately used and since 1988 only Rieslings from the classified vineyards have been bottled.
Tasting note
Citrus fruits and spicy notes dominate the nose. Intense, expressive and elegant on the palate with a dancing minerality and excitement.
Culinary recommendation
Flaschenpöstler tip: Riesling Wehlener Sonnenuhr Alte Reben Grosses Gewächs goes well with duck, mushrooms and Indian cuisine.
Vinification
After manual harvesting, the selected grapes are gently pressed and fermented spontaneously in 1,000 and 3,000 liter fuder barrels. The wine is stored on fine yeast for 12 months; no bâtonnage (stirring up yeast) is used during this time.
