Arneis — The wine that chose its own name

Roero Arneis DOCG 2023 - Achille Viglione

About the wine

The name Roero stands for the growing region, the name Arneis for the grape variety. How did the name Arneis come about? The famous journalist Mario Soldati met a winemaker in 1960, tasted this white wine, which was kindly offered to him, and asked him the name. The winemaker replies that he doesn't have a name yet. Soldati asks him what he has in his hand and he answers: “l'arneis” (tool in Piedmontese dialect), whereupon the journalist says: “This wine will be called Arneis.”

Tasting note
Intense straw green color, on the nose of great intensity and persistence, subtle, fresh, delicate scent, you can recognize a convincing hint of green apple combined with light peaches and exotic fruits. On the palate, it is elegant, bossy, fresh, it has excellent substance and race, it is spicy and direct with aromatic persistence.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with all fish dishes and white meats. Also ideal as an aperitif.
Vinification
It is obtained from an autochthonous Piedmontese grape variety after careful selection of Arneis grapes, which have matured in the most exposed vineyards of the Roero hills.
