About the wine
Barrel-aged Sauvignon Blanc from one of Marlborough's most experienced winemakers. The grapes come from a small plot in the Byrne vineyard, which was once an old riverbed.
Now up to 2024Bob Campbell, MW: 94/100
Tasting note
A hint of smoke and notes of melons, figs, flint and spicy nuances, creamy mouthfeel and a long finish of pink grapefruit. The wine is full-bodied, round and delivers a lot of flavor and texture.
Culinary recommendation
Wonderful with asparagus, fish and seafood.
Vinification
After manual harvesting, the grapes were pressed undestemmed and the must was placed directly into French barrique barrels. Fermentation with wild yeast gives the wine more complexity and texture without dominating the bouquet. Stored on the yeast bed under regular batonnage for 15 months. As a result, the yeast added savory notes and served as a natural fining agent. The wine was then bottled.
