Zweigelt

The red grape Zweigelt was first bred in Austria in 1922. From the varieties Blaufränkisch and St. Laurent, Friedrich Zweigelt then created the grape variety named after him today, which is Austria's most important grape after Grüner Veltliner. Zweigelt is also becoming increasingly important in the neighboring eastern countries of Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary. Zweigelt is often vinified as a single varietal, but can also be blended with other wines.

The well-known Austrian wine comes in an intense, dark red. Zweigelt is powerful and full of character, its fruity aromas are reminiscent of berries and cherries. The Zweigelt grape increases in quality with age and is therefore ideally suited as a wine to be stored. Game dishes, spicy dishes, pasta dishes or pizza are best accompanied by a glass of Zweigelt.
