Admittedly, “Serious Wine from a Gorgeous Place” is a somewhat idiosyncratic name for Austrian wine. Especially when you consider Roland Velich's terroir philosophy. Because of its origin, the original name was also “St. Georgen Grüner Veltliner”. But because it tastes so different and is so different in character than any other Austrian Grüner Veltliner, it was quickly denied quality wine eligibility years ago by the tasting panel of the responsible federal office. And so it is simply “Austrian white wine”. Deep-stacking, forced! The reason for this difference is the barren limestone soils on which the vines thrive and then also the vinification with a long maturation period on yeast in 500 liter barrels. A wine with great aromatic complexity, delicate fruit notes, salty, with wonderfully ripe but present acidity. Very Burgundian!
