About the wine

The wines of Kleine Zalze are characterized by a classic structure and complexity, which goes hand in hand with a lively flavor intensity. Recognizably South African in style, they are refreshing, well-balanced and good to eat. Our wines are produced using traditional methods with minimal intervention in the cellar, but with modern equipment. The intensity of the New World” with its full fruit aromas combined with the elegance and structure of the Old World” results in wines of character, complexity and balance that reflect our terroir and climate. This refined approach to viticulture and winemaking, as well as the attention to detail and personal touch that goes hand in hand with the family business, contribute to the continued success of Kleine Zalze's wines.

Shiraz Vineyard Selection
Although this wine has great flavor intensity both on the bouquet and on the palate, the Shiraz is not overwhelming and shows a well-considered restraint. Waves of wild berry fruits give way to hints of spices and lavender in the finish. The supple tannin structure supports the wine in a beautiful way and ensures that this wine will mature gracefully.
Goes well with strong meats such as game, lamb or beef. But also spicy dishes.
Most of the grapes for this wine came from our own vines with some selected plots from other vineyards in Stellenbosch. All plots were harvested and vinified separately. After manual harvesting, the grapes were sorted and transferred to the “wholeberry” tank, i.e. without squeezing. During fermentation, the juice was pumped regularly to achieve optimal extraction of color and flavor. After fermentation, the wines were pressed and transferred to barrels for malolactic fermentation. The wine matured for 21 months in a combination of first (30%), second (30%) and third (40%) French oak barrels before the various components were assembled and prepared for bottling.
