About the wine

The family winery in southern Sicily was only founded in the 90s in the municipality of Sambuca di Sicilia on Lake Arancio in the province of Agrigento. The owners are cousins Alessio, Francesca and Santi Planeta, who, with the help of the internationally renowned oenologist Carlo Corino (2007), turned the old winery into a top Italian company with the latest cellar technology within a few years. Autochthonous and international grape varieties are grown on the over 360 hectares of vineyards in six different wine-growing zones in Sicily, with particular attention being paid to cultivating the right grape variety on the right soil. Their motto is to give a modern interpretation of historical traditions and grape varieties. Environmental compatibility is very important to them both in this and in the production of their excellent olive oil. For Robert Parker, Planeta is regarded as the reference asset of this region par excellence. Planeta is the high-starter in Sicily. In the wine guide “Gambero Rosso Vini dItalia 1999", the winery was voted number one of the year. Fiano, an old grape variety originally from Campania, is wonderfully expressed in Cometa when grown purely. The typical character of this variety is its own, intense and fruity scent with beautiful minerality and a fine acid structure.

Cometa DOC bianco
Deep straw yellow with green reflections, intensely aromatic nuances, primarily of litchies, nectarines, pineapples, tangerines and peppermint, accompanied by herbal notes such as chamomile and wild thyme. Rich, elegant and soft on the palate with a long-lasting, aromatic finish.
Excellent with strong fish tartare, pasta with cream cheese or seafood, duck breast, porcini mushrooms and goat cheese.
Temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks at 15° C for 20 days.
