About the wine
The story of Mount Eden Vineyards began with winemaker Martin Ray, who began planting vines on a ridge of hills in the Santa Cruz Mountains in 1945. Today, this winery covers 16 hectares, which are mainly planted with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Mount Eden is said to have the longest Chardonnay and Pinot Noir tradition in North America. Jeffrey Patterson has been in charge since 1981, who is responsible for the consistently high wine quality, which is even comparable to that of Monte Bello Ridge.
Wine Spectator: 93/100, Wine Enthusiast: 94/100, Decanter: 95/100
Tasting note
It smells intensely of citrus fruits, paired with floral and herbal notes and elegant wood aromas. On the palate, this balanced Chardonnay has a fresh, stimulating acidity and a long-lasting, mineral finish, which is accompanied by candied citrus fruits and freshly baked brioche.
Culinary recommendation
Flaschenpöstler recommends this Chardonnay Estate Santa Cruz Mountains for fish with herbs, asparagus and poultry.
