Wallis, Valais – it is said that the inhabitants of this mountainous canton tend to regularly down a glass of white wine. But you really can't hold that against the people of Valais, given the large selection of wines that their canton has to offer. The incredible variety of products is the result of the many terroirs – as the sites and soils in a wine region are called – which offer the most varied soil qualities and climatic conditions.This enables the winegrowers to cultivate different grape varieties. Thus, on Valais soil you can find everything from old native vines like Amigne, Cornalin, Humagne or Petite Arvigne to traditional varieties like Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Sylvaner and Syrah.
