Tasting note
1077 or Milsetentayseis - The name almost explains where the wine comes from, because the vineyard is located near Fuentenebro at over 1000 m in the altitudes of the Ribera del Duero. Jossé Maria Ruiz, founder and owner of Bodega Pago de Carraovejas, has breathed life back into the winery. Most of the vineyards are planted with hundred-year-old Tempranillo bushes, only a few had to be renewed. The altitude and the nutrient-poor soil (clay and limestone) demand everything from the vines. This self-regulation results in a wine with distinctive character and expression. The slower development of grapes at this altitude combined with a late harvest (usually early to mid-October) produce a wine with ripe, concentrated fruit, ripe yet distinctive tannin structure. It is wonderfully fresh and the strong mineral expression gives it a long finish.
