About the wine
Vito Cantania, a successful Milanese businessman with Sicilian roots, inherited the vineyards in the mid-1990s and immediately began to resume the old wine-growing tradition. The entire company was renovated and expanded from head to toe. The vineyards were reforested and from then on farmed organically, new working methods were implemented and very privileged wine sites were purchased in Val di Noto. With its fine, racy Nero DaVola reflecting the terroir, Gulfi has quickly become one of Sicily's leading producers and was named Winery of the Year in 2012.
Tasting note
The “Village” wine from Gulfi is, so to speak, the estate's calling card and presents the elegant Nero d'Avola style in the best sense of the word. In the bouquet with a great mix of red and black berries, balsamic notes and oriental spices. Very smooth palate with a fine melt, the fine-grained tannins and the juicy, dark-berry fruit core ensure a great drinking flow. The finish ends with good length, elegant and spicy nuances. A very harmonious and drinkable Sicilian, that's what makes Nero d'Avola really fun.
