About the wine
For 130 years, vines have been planted, grapes pressed and wine pressed at the Escorihuela Gascón winery. This makes the estate in Mendoza in northwestern Argentina the oldest winery in the country — and one of the most famous. But about that more later. The beginnings in 1884 were still extremely modest: At just 23 years of age, the Spanish immigrant Miguel Escorihuela Gascón took his first steps in the wine industry by investing his savings in a few hectares of vineyards. The risk paid off from: Miguel's wines soon gained national fame. Of course, this was not hidden from the president either, and so the Escorihuela Gascón estate became court purveyor to Juan Peròn and his wife Evita, who was much loved by the people, from the mid-1940s. The President's Blend was also created exclusively for them; for a long time, the blend that determines the special wine was top secret. Today we know that in addition to a main proportion of Malbec (85%), Cabernet Sauvignon (10%) and Syrah (5%) are processed, and the wine is then stored for 13 months in new French and American oak barrels. Don't cry for me, Argentina — no, with such a wine, we definitely don't see any reason to mope!
