Tasting note
Intense aromas of blackberry compote with cassis and fresh plum are overlaid by notes of vanilla, crème brûlée and cedarwood. The distinct bouquet continues on the palate, with powerful tannins and a rich, full mouthfeel. Intense berry fruit, with close-meshed notes of licorice, chocolate, pencil and tobacco give this wine further layers and a refined complexity. The expressive fruit and spice balances the powerful tannins and culminates in a dry, spicy finish. The depth and intensity of the taste suggest excellent shelf life.
Culinary recommendation
Ideal wine to pair with braised beef in hearty jus.
Vinification
The Estate Blend is the emblematic wine from Rust en Vrede. The blend is made up of the proportions of the varieties planted on Rust en Vrede and is therefore the most honest reflection of our terroir. The grapes for this wine come from a 22-hectare Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard, 7-hectare Syrah vineyard and a 1-hectare Merlot vineyard, reflecting the vegetation of the estate. The estate was aged for 22 months in French oak barrels, 40% of which was new wood.
