About the wine
Solestà is the name of a district of Ascoli Piceno (called “sestrieri”), which owes its name to a medieval bridge and a gate in the historic center of Ascoli. It is therefore the wine that is most closely linked to the tradition of the town of Ascoli Piceno. The white color of the label refers to travertine, the white stone from which the entire historic center and in particular the famous Piazza del Popolo is built.
Luca Maroni: 93/100
Tasting note
The bouquet of this red wine seduces with nuances of black currants, mulberries, blueberries and blackberries. There are also aromas of oriental spices, dark chocolate and black tea. The Solestà is wonderfully round and smooth, while being fresh and lively. In the aftertaste, this youthful red wine delights with a long finish. Once again, there are hints of blueberries and black currants.
Culinary recommendation
Flaschenpöstler recommends this Solestà Rosso Piceno Superiore DOC for pizza, beef and pasta.
Vinification
After the grape harvest, the grapes reach the winery as quickly as possible. Here they are sorted and carefully destemmed. Fermentation then takes place in large wooden barrels at controlled temperatures. After fermentation, it is aged for 8 to 10 months in new barriques.
