About the wine
The Alois Lageder family winery cultivates its vineyards according to the principles of biodynamic agriculture. In the documentary “The Living Vine” (2011), Alois Lageder talks about his vision of holistic agriculture. https://vimeo.com/158473432 (English).
Tasting note
Deep cherry red with slightly violet reflections. On the nose, notes of cassis and black cherries, underpinned by some leather, tobacco and black pepper. On the palate, the wine is very spicy, with aromas of dark berries and phenolic notes. A medium-bodied wine with a robust structure and a good aromatic persistence on the finish.
Culinary recommendation
It goes great with jerky meat or lamb with herbs.
Vinification
The grapes come from selected sites in Margreid and Kurtatsch. The vineyards are located at 240 to 350 m above sea level, on a gravelly, highly calcareous soil. Mash fermentation and biological acid degradation in steel tanks take twelve days. The young wine is then aged for 18 months in Slavonian oak barriques.
