Tasting note
Feudi del Pisciotto is an ensemble of ancient houses. It is located six kilometers from the sea in the province of Caltanissetta. The medieval term “feudo” can be translated as “fiefdom”. The Baglio manor house is slightly elevated in the center. The surrounding houses were inhabited by farmers and craftsmen, the crops were stored in the barns, and the wines matured in the cellars. Today, the old structures fulfill new functions: Where grapes were processed into wine, an impressive wine museum has been set up and the former residential buildings now serve as chic guest rooms and as a trattoria. Paolo Panerai, who did pioneering work in Chianti Classico with his Castellare winery, was able to acquire the manor house. He had the building restored and a modern winery built. In 2002, he began to plant the first vineyards, today 45 hectares are in yield, half of them Nero d'Avola, the other half international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Sémillon and Gewürztraminer.
