The roots of Azienda Marangona go back to 1692 and is named after the town where it is established. Alessandro Cutolo only joined here at the beginning of this century, but right from the start, his wines embody what is typical of the appellation, contrary to a widespread tendency towards “consumer-friendly” sweet Lugana. Alessndro Cutolo can draw on a very old vineyard. Lugana Cemento, the flagship of Azienda Marangona, is harvested from vines that are at least 40 years old, meaning that roots have penetrated into the deepest layers of the earth and obtain their mineral-rich nutrients from there. In contrast to what is usual with white wine, the grapes are stripped, crushed and fermented together with the berry skins and seeds in cement containers. The young wine then remains on the fine yeast for about a year, which is stirred again and again. It is the yeasts that give wine a special flavor and keep it very long.
