About the wine
St. Michael-Eppan is a cooperative consisting of 350 winegrowers and, with its various individual sites with a total of over 380 ha of cultivated area, is one of the largest and most successful wineries in South Tyrol. Despite its size, quality has been paramount since it was founded in 1907, which is why it is now one of the best wine cooperatives in the world. The winery has been managed by the outstanding oenologist Hans Terzer since 1977. Thanks to his unconditional passion for wines and his perfectionism, the quality of the wines increased to a very high degree under his leadership. In 1997, he was named one of the 10 most important winemakers in the world by the Italian wine magazine Il Gambero Rosso. Another prestigious award followed in 2000, when St. Michael-Eppan received the Italian Winery of the Year award. High quality awareness is still paramount today, so that the wines continue to receive 3 glasses of Gambero Rosso and Slow Food on a regular basis.
