About the wine
A true discovery or love at first sip! Carlo Meroni, who runs the winery in the third generation, is still convinced, like his grandfather Carlo Roberto, that he needs a lot of work and patience to produce a first-class Amarone. The strictly selected grapes according to varieties are dried for a long time on special devices (4-5 months), then gently fermented for 60 days and matured for at least 5 years in traditional wooden barrels (called Botti). As a result, the wines impress with their enormous complexity and elegance and are velvety and soft. That is why the name “Il Velluto”, which he received from the Veronese dialect poet Berto Barbarani, who thanked the winemaker Meroni in 1943 for the preserved “velvety wine” (il velluto = velvet). 15 ha, half of which is planted with vines and the other with olive trees and forest, are owned by Azienda Agricola PRODUCER_ NAME.
