About the wine
Give yourself a treat for the senses with the first-class Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Poggio Alle Mura from 2011! With experience and instinct, the winemaker from the Italian winery Castello Banfi masters this red wine in the fertile and blooming Tuscan countryside.
Castello BanfiRed wine | 75cl16°-18°CThe Sangiovese gives this wine its special character. The refreshing notes of black pepper and red plum ensure the fruity taste.
Tasting note
Dark, rich ruby red. On the nose, a magnificent bouquet of fruit with aromas of sour cherries, plums, sweet spices, delicate rose petals and some gingerbread spice. On the palate, a gentle yet distinct start, with smooth, round tannins and a soft, creamy finish. The aromas of the nose are also visible on the palate. The aftertaste is long-lasting and complex.
Culinary recommendation
A rich accompaniment to a juicy roast or spicy hard cheese.
Vinification
Only the best Sangiovese grapes (known locally as Brunello) are used for the royal wine of Tuscany — in this case only the grapes that grow around the “Poggio alle Mura” castle. The alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and in wood. 90% of the young wine is aged for 24 months in French barriques, the remaining 10% in Slavonian oak barrels. This is followed by a year in the bottle.
