About the wine

The family winery in southern Sicily was only founded in the 90s in the municipality of Sambuca di Sicilia on Lake Arancio in the province of Agrigento. The owners are cousins Alessio, Francesca and Santi Planeta, who, with the help of the internationally renowned oenologist Carlo Corino (2007), turned the old winery into a top Italian company with the latest cellar technology within a few years. Autochthonous and international grape varieties are grown on the over 360 hectares of vineyards in six different wine-growing zones in Sicily, with particular attention being paid to cultivating the right grape variety on the right soil. Their motto is to give a modern interpretation of historical traditions and grape varieties. Environmental compatibility is very important to them both in this and in the production of their excellent olive oil. For Robert Parker, Planeta is regarded as the reference asset of this region par excellence. Planeta is the high-starter in Sicily. In the wine guide “Gambero Rosso Vini dItalia 1999", the winery was voted number one of the year. Burdese in the local dialect means something like Bordeaux-like, which is derived from the composition of the main grape varieties that originate in western France and give the wine the great structure, abundance, harmony and longevity.

Tasting note
Ruby red, scents of spices and red fruits. Accents of leather, earth, cocoa and minerals. A full wine with quickly recognizable, dense tannins to get their money's worth even for the more discerning wine lovers.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with grilled or roasted beef.
Vinification
Fermentation for 15-18 days on skins at 28° C in stainless steel tanks. 14 months aging in new Allier oak barriques.
