About the wine
In 1978, Swiss entrepreneur Donald Hess acquired the winery in California. From the very beginning, organic viticulture played a major role. Instead of spraying weedkillers, goats are allowed to graze between the vines. Hess's large art collection is also located on the estate.

Tasting note
Dark ruby red. The nose smells dark cherries, some cedar wood, a bit of red and black currant. On the palate, the medium-bodied wine shows firm acidity and relatively soft tannins. The aromatic persistence is quite long.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with beef, grill, lamb.
Vinification
Hess Select uses grapes from two vineyards, the Napa Valley and Lake Country north of it. The wine is aged for 18 months in 35% new French and American oak barrels.
