About the wine
Castello di Fonterutoli, located in the middle of the Chianti Classico, has been owned by the Mazzei family for almost 600 years and has grown over the centuries to a fantastic 650 ha farm, including 100 ha of vineyards. The Mazzei family attaches great importance to their very important cultural heritage, but they also know from history that you have to keep up with the times. They are wines with a clear signature and origin that are happy to shake hands with both connoisseurs and laymen.
Tasting note
Stately, mature, masculine character. Dense, tart and compact appearance, dark and deep, with a confident, warm appearance, dark fruit, blackcurrant and cherries, lots of spice, slightly smoky. Dominant on the palate, with bitter sweetness and daring, tall stature, energetic, with powerful tannins, leaves a lasting impression.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with sumptuous, spicy dishes, game dishes, pot roasts, truffles and mature cheeses.
Vinification
Selective reading by hand. Two to three weeks of maceration, temperature-controlled fermentation, maturation for 20 months in new and used French oak barrels (500l).
