About the wine
Quinta das Marias is located in the heart of the Dão, the oldest DOC area in Portugal. The winery was founded in 1991 by Elisabeth and Peter Eckert. The two Swiss wine pioneers initially bought 4 hectares of land. Today, the charming Quinta covers 12 hectares in a prime location. The winery only grows autochthonous plants. Thanks to the excellent climatic conditions and the exceptional terroir, wines of first-class quality are produced. Tasting note
Crimson. Spicy aromas of juniper and wild berries. Very soft and pleasant body on the palate, full of fruit and firm tannins. Long finish.
Culinary recommendation
Red meat, game dishes, large roasts, leg of lamb. It can be a bit hearty.
Vinification
The previously destemmed grapes were subjected to pre-fermentation at low temperatures for 24 hours. Fermentation took place in tanks of 10,000 liters with a temperature control of no more than 28ºC. After fermentation, the wine was in an extended maceration (cuvaison) for 15 days. The wine matured for 8 months in French and American oak barrels.
