About the wine

In 1752, a member of the Pérez Pereira family acquired 54 hectares of land in Valtuille de Abajo and the family has been pressing wine there for four generations. The most famous winegrower in the region is probably Alvaro Palacios, whose family business, Palacios Remondo, is located in Rioja. As a flying winemaker, Alvaro first made a guest appearance at the Castro Ventosa winery, where he learned how to handle the Mencía grape, before later founding his own bodega and thus making the Bierzo region known worldwide. Not least thanks to the know-how of Alvaro Palacios and the ambition and experience of the Pérez Pereira family, the two wines El Valtuille and El Castro del Valtuille are among the best that is made from the Mencía grape today.
