About the wine
3,000 hours of sunshine and very cold winters make wines full of character from over 50-year-old vines. Ego Bodegas is the work of Santos Javier Ortíz Sanz, who, after years in the wine business, was able to realise his dream of having his own bodega in Jumilla. It took him almost a decade to do this, but in 2010 it was time. The winery, which is located around 25 kilometers from the historic center of the village of Jumilla, now covers 25 hectares, of which 80% are planted with the king of this region: the Monastrell grape. There are also Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. As is often the case in the recent history of Spanish viticulture, this is a very young company, but the vineyards already had several previous owners and are planted with vines that are over 50 years old. Ego Bodegas also works according to ecological principles. With over 3,000 hours of sunshine, very low rainfall, cold winters and hot summers, the vines are heavily stressed at 700 meters above sea level. But that is exactly what makes the grapes so unique.
