Glen Carlou was founded in 1985, making it a relatively young winery that has built up an enviable reputation as one of South Africa's leading producers. Nestled in the heart of the Paarl wine-growing region, with vineyards on the foothills of the famous Simonsberg.

Tasting note
This vintage was truly a spectacular year for Cabernet and this release is an excellent example of a full-bodied, fundamental Cabernet. The nose shows layers of ripe black currants, red berries, mulberries and a hint of cedar and walnuts. A well-balanced wine with a tasty palate, rounded off by subtle oak spiciness and firm tannins.
Culinary recommendation
Accompanies excellent smocked ribs or a slow-cooked lamb stew.
Vinification
Hand-picked grapes from a single vineyard within the Simonsberg-Paarl appellation, sorted by hand and then spontaneously fermented in 400l open oak barrels, while a small part was inoculated and fermented in a small open steel tank. After 4 weeks of maceration on the skins, the free-running juice was transferred to 225l new French oak barrels for 24 months. Each cask was evaluated and carefully selected before the final cuvee was selected.
