Crisp fresh white wine is unfortunately not available too often in Sicilia, usually the whites here are rather heavy, if not overloaded. Not so the Grillo of Abbazia Santa Anastasia. The vines are all located on the seashore sloping north (view to the Aeolian Islands). This has the clear advantage that the sun does not press too hot on the vines, the whole vegetation process is a bit slower and thus the freshness (not only of the white varieties!) is fully preserved. The Grillo by Francesco Lena, the owner of this unique winery, whose origins date back to the 11th century, also shows its spicy typicality, its subtle unmistakable aromas in a very fresh, playfully light way.
