About the wine

The winery is managed by Johann and Monika and their two sons Thomas and Florian. The vineyards (15 ha) are spread over a length of six kilometers from Wösendorf to Unterloiben. The Grüner Veltliner variety is cultivated on around 60 percent of the vineyard area, followed by Riesling at around 30 percent. The range is completed with some Sauvignon Blanc, yellow Muscat and Pinot Blanc. Loving and careful work in the vineyard and modern cellar technology guarantee high quality. The wines produced by the Schmelz family, which is a founding member of the VINEA WACHAU association, have received awards from many trade magazines and tastings. They deserve the description wines with that certain SCHMELZ. In 2005, Johann Schmelz was named Winemaker of the Year by Falstaff.
