About the wine
One of Puglia's most famous and best wines, which matures in French barriques for twelve months. Complex nose with notes of ripe fruit, leather, tobacco and warm spices. A true Puglia classic, first vinified in 1971.
Tasting note
Dense, dark ruby. Complex nose with notes of ripe fruit, some leather, tobacco and warm spices. Rich on the palate with lots of melting, structured, balanced. The aromas on the nose are repeated. The finish is long and is characterized by the structure and ripe aromas of the wine. A true Puglia classic — first vinified in 1971.
Culinary recommendation
A treat with spicy pasta and hearty meat dishes.
Vinification
The grapes come from an old vineyard, which was planted at around 200 m above sea level. The harvest takes place between mid-October and early November, and the grapes are carefully selected for quality right from the vineyard. Maceration takes place in steel tanks for 12 to 14 days. The young wine then matures for 14 months to 50% in French barriques and 50% in 30-hl barrels, also made from French oak. Before Il Falcone goes on sale, it is stored in the bottle for another year after bottling.
