Kleine Zalze Family Reserve Shiraz 2017 - Kleine Zalze Wines

About the wine

If we can offer something special for Christmas 2021, it will be this dominant red wine 2016 — Kleine Zalze Family Reserve Shiraz. The winemaker from the South African winery Kleine Zalze Wines has absolutely mastered his craft. Elegance and finesse are the hallmarks of this red wine, which originates in the beautiful and sunny landscape of the coastal region. Culinary tip from Flaschenpost team: This Shiraz is ideal to be served with roasted vegetables or barbecue.

Tasting note
A dark wine, both on the bouquet and on the palate. The depth of the flavor is astounding, and the dark plums on the mid-palate give way to a long finish with a hint of white pepper. With both spicy and fruity notes, this Shiraz is a very versatile wine to enjoy with your meal. However, rest assured that the mouth-filling, supple tannin structure will ensure that you will be well rewarded if you carefully store this wine for a few years before enjoying it!
Culinary recommendation
Fantastic wine that goes well with a lamb tagine with coscous and apricots.
Vinification
For the first time, not all grapes for this wine came from our home company in Kleine Zalze. Apart from the 2 blocks that are normally used, a touch of fruit from the Faure farm was also used. This was done to add a touch of classic elegance to the final assemblage. However, the Shiraz thrives in Mediterranean climates, and the fruit showed excellent concentration combined with freshness and elegance. The grapes were harvested, destemmed and sorted by hand early in the morning before being transferred to a stainless steel tank for fermentation. The perfect structure of the wine was achieved through a combination of open and closed pumping and careful monitoring to ensure the best possible balance. The wine matured in 80% new French oak barrels for 24 months.
