Since the Mourvèdre (moor-veh-druh) grape originally comes from the warm shores of the Mediterranean, it is well suited to our climate and grows strongly. Our small 0.8 hectare winery is box-pruned to obtain a large number of buds. This results in a balance between vegetative growth and fruiting. We ensure a low yield by dropping uneven grapes before harvesting. In the 2020 growing season, abundant winter rainfall and moderate temperatures led to above-average yields, and care was taken to avoid overcrops. Slow maturation meant that the rosé was picked later than usual and the fruit arrived at the winery in excellent condition. During the crushing process, we leave the grapes in the press for between one and 1.5 hours, in contact with the skins. This skin contact gives the wine its salmon and onion skin color. The wine is naturally fermented in stainless steel tanks and bottled with minimal intervention. Aromas of strawberries, watermelon and black currants are underlined by a crisp, dry finish. This is a perfect wine next to braai. Serve chilled at 7-9 degrees C.
