Francesco Lena's intention when he acquired the dilapidated abbey (12th century) almost 40 years ago was not that of making wine. This was only created in the course of time, when he himself began to discover the world of wine. He then decided to set up a model company here from humble beginnings. The Nestor among the Italian oenologists, Giacomo Tachis, showed the way to success and created, among other things, the Passomaggio, an excellent marriage between local Nero d'Avola and Merlot, which is only harvested when overripe. Later, Lena decided to grow some Cabernet Sauvignon as well to add a peppery and refreshing touch to the wine. The result is fascinating: the exotic spice of Nero d'Avola together with the opulent, flattering richness of the highly ripe Merlot together with Cabernet Sauvignon create a multi-faceted ballet of aromas. The expression is clearly defined, on the palate Passomaggio is very mild with ripe tannins.
