Tasting note
Francesco Lena's purpose when he bought the dilapidated abbey (12th century) almost 40 years ago was not to make wine. This only came about over time, when he himself began to discover the world of wine. He then decided to set up a model business here from humble beginnings. Nestor among Italian oenologists, Giacomo Tachis, showed the way to success and created, among other things, Passomaggio, an excellent marriage between local Nero d'Avola and Merlot, which is only harvested when overripe. Lena later decided to also grow some Cabernet Sauvignon to add a peppery and refreshing note to the wine. The result is fascinating: the exotic spice of Nero d'Avola together with the opulent, flattering richness of the highly ripe Merlot, together with the Cabernet Sauvignon, result in a multi-faceted ballet of aromas. The expression is clearly defined; on the palate, Passomaggio is very mild with ripe tannin.
