Pinot Noir Calcaire absolu AOC 2018 - Histoire d'Enfer

About the wine

The name says it all: Histoire d'Enfer (Hell's Story) creates hell of good wines. Need proof? The recently published ranking of the “100 most beautiful wines in Switzerland” (Schweizerische Weinzeitung) includes no less than 3 wines from Histoire d'Enfer — more than from any other winery, and all in the TOP 40! The initiator, co-founder and boss is Geneva doctor Patrick Regamey. It is just as much a natural phenomenon as his biodynamically produced wines... The doctor and autodidact cites rigorous triage of grapes, whole grape pressing (including the stems) in top wines and meticulous selection of the best barriques as the most important quality factors. He is even on the scientific council of barrique manufacturer Taransaud and, according to his own statements, has also carried out research into wood. He must also have a fine nose, as he is a member of the European Grand Jury's tasting group. No, the extremely eloquent but likeable doctor certainly has no lack of self-confidence, but the exceptional quality of his wines proves him right in every respect. We are thrilled!

Tasting note
CALCAIRE ABSOLU is the most resolute, daring of the dark sisters, ventures far down, always bright sweet pinot fruit in the dark, also blackcurrant, ethereal notes, otherwise gloomy, like in a tunnel, lots of stones, ash lime, leads down into abysses. Tart, sweet, dark, dense fruit, deep and impenetrable, ethereal, undergrowth, very chalky, dark, cutting minerality, seems to be lost in a dark imagination only to finally see the soft, warm light of Pinot fruit. Isn't hell just a dark and harsh obsession? Fascinating depth and complexity. Big
Culinary recommendation
Der Wein sollte in diesem Zeitraum genossen werden: Jetzt bis 2035. Flaschenpöstler-Tipp: Pinot Noir Calcaire absolu AOC passt hervorragend zu Lachs, Ente und rotem Fleisch.
Vinification
Very selective reading by hand. Whole grape fermentation, moderate use of new small oak barrels.
