Riesling Smaragd Terrassen 2022 - Domäne Wachau

About the wine

Since winery manager and Master of Wine Roman Horvath and winemaster Heinz Frischengruber have steered the fortunes of Domäne Wachau, the winery and its winemaker families have captured an unprecedented dynamism. Within a very short period of time, they became the big players on the Danube, not least because of a sophisticated vineyard program and meticulous quality work. The steepness and height of the terraces are paid tribute, and individual layers are processed separately. Manual harvesting and targeted selection are the basis for perfect grape material. The result is a unique range of different Veltliners and Rieslings, which have long since amazed the international wine world.

Domäne WachauWhite wine | 75cl138°-10°C100% Riesling
Tasting note
Medium green-yellow in the glass. Intense and fruity on the nose with fine stone fruit notes: ripe vineyard peach, apricot and some papaya. Distinctive and powerful on the palate with great fruit and juicy finish, acidity and body are balanced and very elegant. A charming and drinkable emerald.
Culinary recommendation
Recommended by Flaschenpöstlern: Goes well with shrimps, Asian food and mushrooms. Our recommendation: Drink this white wine at a slightly chilled 8°C.
Vinification
This wine is produced in vineyards all over the Wachau. The focus is not on the individuality of a single vineyard, but on the typical Wachau style, characterized by depth of fruit, elegance and minerality. Riesling grapes from Loiben and Dürnstein bring substance, Weissenkirchen stands for balance and Riesling grapes from Spitz and Viessling bring great finesse. The steep stone terrace vineyards and the barren soil, which can only be worked by hand, reduce the yield to around 6,000 kg/ha. After fermentation in stainless steel tanks, most of the wine was aged in stainless steel tanks. A small batch was also aged and cut back in large old wooden barrels. Vegan certified.
