About the wine
Weingut Dr. Loosen has been family-owned for over 200 years. Ernst Loosen, who has been running the winery since 1988, quickly recognized the great potential of the vineyards with 60 to 100-year-old root-right vines in the most famous vineyards in the Middle Moselle. All six of Dr. Loosen's main wine sites were designated as Large Lage in 1868. Gutsintern is now consciously based on this classification and has been filling only Rieslings from the classified vineyards since 1988.
Vinous: 93 , Robert Parker: 92 , James Suckling: 96
Tasting note
Deep in the nose, ripe yellow fruit, stone, confit citrus fruit. Close on the palate with draft, elegance and good structure. The juicy, slightly salty minerality accompanies the finish of this Riesling.
Culinary recommendation
Flaschenpöstler-Tipp: Riesling Wehlener Sonnenuhr Alte Reben Grosses Gewächs passt bestens zu Ente, Pilzen und indischer Küche.
Vinification
After manual harvesting, the selected grapes are gently pressed and fermented spontaneously in 1,000 and 3,000 liter Fuder barrels. The wine is stored on fine yeast for 12 months, during which time no bâtonnage (yeast mixture mixing) is used.
