Riserva di Costasera Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOC 2017 - Masi

About the wine

The winemaker from the Italian winery Masi has absolutely mastered his craft. Style and finesse are the hallmarks of this red wine, which originates in the enchanting and flourishing landscape in Veneto. Culinary tip from Flaschenpost team: This Corvina is excellent to serve with roasts or recent types of cheese.

Tasting note
Dark, dense ruby. Dense, intensely spicy bouquet. Lots of black ripe fruit, coffee, tobacco, roasted nuts, dried fruits, toasted wood. Complex and demanding. A soft and flattering start on the palate. Then full and majestic, again ripe, black fruit. It is accompanied by sweet spicy nuances and notes of roasted wood, mocha and black pepper. Ripe, robust tannins. Long, lasting finale in excellent balance.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with Italian cuisine, which can easily be stored for a few years.
Vinification
For the Amarone Riserva, the best Valpolicella grapes from around 30-year-old vines are carefully harvested at the beginning of October, checked again piece by piece and any unripe, dry or injured berries are removed. After that, the grapes stay longer than with the “normal” Amarone (about three months) in well-ventilated rooms on special slatted frames to dry up. They lose 25 to 40% of their original weight; at the same time, sugar, flavor and extract are concentrated. Fermentation, which lasts around 90 days, is initiated in temperature-controlled steel tanks around mid-March. The wine is then aged for several years in wooden barrels of 6 to 8 hl.
