About the wine
At the beginning of 2000, Roman Niewodniczanski acquired the estate, restored it and expanded it to include prime locations on the Saar. Today, it covers around 75 hectares, mainly located on the best steep slopes with some 30-year-old vines. The aim is to produce harmonious, digestible wines with pure drinking pleasure. The results are mainly dry-aged wines of mineral finesse with ripe fruit and low alcohol content.
Falstaff: 91/100
Tasting note
Pleasantly fresh nose with aromas of apricot, white peach, elderberry and shale minerality. Dry on the palate with a hint of residual sweetness, fresh, balanced acidity and clear fruit. The finish is persistent with a fine, salty minerality.
Culinary recommendation
It goes well with fish, white meat, vegetables and goat cheese.
Vinification
Only ripe grapes and selective manual harvesting. The grapes are gently pressed and fermented spontaneously in steel tanks using wild yeasts. Stored on fine yeast in steel tanks for six to seven months, the wine gains a pleasant texture and creaminess. The wine is bottled without fining.
