Tasting note
Sciur is the personal tribute of Casimiro Maule, the long-time oenologist of Nino Negri, to the winemaking tradition of Valtellina. The subtle fruit on the nose of sour cherries and wild berries in combination with oxidative ageing aromas such as leather and tobacco suggest a traditional Veltliner. Sweet notes characterize the prelude and merge into complex, earthy aromas of forest soil, slate and flint. On the palate, this varietal Chiavennasca is characterized by present tannins, which give this wine the necessary structure. Leathery and woody aromas extend well into the finish. Sciur is more than just wine, but also the preservation of the local wine culture: Sostenibile (sustainable), Concreto (concrete), Innovativ (innovative), Unico (unique), Responsabile (responsible). In Valtellina dialect, Sciur stands for the respectful salutation of a highly respected person — just like his creator!
