Tasting note
The C 2020 series shows a high density of red to black color and a bright crimson border. Deep, sensual aromas with a clear Series C character of dark blue/black fruit notes. Rich layers of blackcurrant pastille, licorice, notes of juniper berries and charred cedarwood offer remarkable refinement. On the palate, it is deliciously wide and harmonious, with a consistent fruit sweetness.” Strong middle palate with ripe tannins, good weight and texture. Both linearly and continuous, with perfect presence and great length. Beautifully integrated. The vintage reflects the quintessence of elegance, with a core of satiny tannins and youthful energy. Although seductive in his youth, the C 2020 Series promises a decade or more to unfold.
Culinary recommendation
It goes very well with strong meats such as game, lamb or beef and with various types of ripe cheese.
Vinification
Covid-19 and a year of beginnings. When faced with disruptions and uncertainties, you should focus on the results and not on the challenges themselves. The rains in 2019 marked the start of a wet and cold winter. Spring brought warm, beautiful weather, which led to an early (two weeks earlier) and steady bud opening, which meant healthy, homogeneous shoot growth in the early season. Windy conditions during flowering led to a certain variability in berry growth and resulted in loose bunches with small berries. The temperatures during maturation were moderate and without the usual heat waves that we expected. This resulted in a steady and measured pace of maturation and harvesting. Despite the uncertainty caused by the announcement of a national Covid-19 lockdown on March 26, 2020, we are grateful that we were able to get all wines safely into the barrels before this date. While no one is aware of the worldwide outbreak of a pandemic of this magnitude or the far-reaching consequences, we are in a positive mood and will continue to do so. The wines of this vintage are characterized by balance, concentration and restrained power. Features needed for a future classic. Aged for 22 months in 68% new French oak barrels.
