Shiraz McRae Wood 2016 - Jim Barry Wines

About the wine

Jim Barry has significantly shaped Australia's wine history. It is thanks to his commitment and community spirit that the Clare Valley wine region is now known as one of Australia's best. Jim Barry was one of the first certified oenologists in the region. Together with his wife Nancy, he bought the first vineyards in the north of the Clare Valley in 1959. Nancy and their sons Peter, Mark and John contributed a lot to the success of the company. Peter has been Managing Director since 1985 and now runs the winery together with his children Tom (cellar master), Sam (Commercial Manager) and Olivia (Brand Ambassador). With the Armagh, Jim Barry has achieved a remarkable feat, this wine achieved cult status after just a short time! Although larger quantities of this plant could be sold, strictly limited quantities are still adhered to today.

James Suckling: 94/100
Tasting note
Rich, vibrant aromas of black currants with hints of vanilla and spices. Red and purple fruits on the palate, supported by a rich, earthy undertone and fine, silky tannins. This gives the wine an excellent structure, great length and persistent aroma.
Culinary recommendation
Our recommendation: The ideal drinking temperature for the red wine is slightly chilled 15°-18°C. The recommended enjoyment phase of this wine is in the following period: 2016 - 2032. Recommended by Flaschenpöstlern: Shiraz McRae Wood goes perfectly with game, barbecue and roasted vegetables.
Vinification
The selected grapes are subjected to a cool maceration period after harvesting. Fermentation takes place in open fermentation tanks. After gentle pressing, the wine is aged for 17 months in 65% new American barriques and 35% French barriques (12% new, 23% used).
