The Armagh Shiraz 2009 - Jim Barry Wines

About the wine

Jim Barry has significantly shaped Australia's wine history. It is thanks to his commitment and community spirit that the Clare Valley wine region is now known as one of Australia's best. Jim Barry was one of the first certified oenologists in the region. Together with his wife Nancy, he bought the first vineyards in the north of the Clare Valley in 1959. Nancy and their sons Peter, Mark and John contributed a lot to the success of the company. Peter has been Managing Director since 1985 and now runs the winery together with his children Tom (cellar master), Sam (Commercial Manager) and Olivia (Brand Ambassador). With the Armagh, Jim Barry has achieved a remarkable feat, this wine achieved cult status after just a short time! Although larger quantities of this plant could be sold, strictly limited quantities are still adhered to today.

Tasting note
Note from Parker: The 2006 The Armagh is one of Australia's icon wines. Sourced from a vineyard planted in 1964 on its own roots, it is a 100% Shiraz cuvee that spent 17 months in 100% new French and American oak before a bottling without fining and filtration. A saturated purple color, it gives off an enthralling nose of pain grille, smoked meat, incense, Asian spices, boysenberry, mulberry, and plum. With exceptional depth, richness, and structure, this impeccably balanced Shiraz can be cellared for another 6-8 years and will offer a drinking window extending from 2014 to 2026.
Culinary recommendation
Our recommendation: Enjoy this red wine at a slightly chilled 15°-18°C. The following period is the ideal enjoyment phase of this wine: 2016 - 2039. Flaschenpost team tip: The Armagh Shiraz goes perfectly with game, roasted vegetables and barbecue.
Vinification
Fermentation is carried out in open fermentation tanks. Maceration times depend on year and grape variety. It is aged for around 17 months in new American and French barriques.
