Trilogy Cabernet Merlot Franc 2018 - Warwick

About the wine

Warwick Estate is a high-quality South African winery in the Stellenbosch region of South Africa. It has a rich history that dates back to 1771. From 1771 to 1902 Warwick was known as farm De Goede Sukses”. After the Boer War ended in 1902, Colonel William Alexander Gordon, commanding officer of the Warwick SHIRE regiment, bought the historic farm. He renamed it “Warwick" as a tribute to his regiment. In 1964, Norma & Stan Ratcliffe developed the land with a great focus on planting Bordeaux varieties, mainly Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Over the years, the winery won many prestigious wine awards and became a firm icon. In 2017, Warwick was acquired by Charles Marston and Kishore Bopardikar through Eileses Capital, their investment fund with the aim of building on the significant Warwick foundation and taking the property to a new level of global recognition. This was followed by the acquisition of the neighboring Uitkyk winery from Distell. This purchase effectively expanded the Warwick footprint to over 700 hectares of prime Simonsberg, Stellenbosch terroir. The Simonsberg Mountains are located in the center of the Cape Winelands, about 45 km from Cape Town. These striking mountains rise almost 1400 meters above sea level and offer a spectacular variety of slopes and climbs.

Tasting note
A lot of ripe fruit of raspberries, blackberries and plums and a light chocolate and mocha note appear on the nose. A complex wine with structure and fine tannins, velvety on the palate with fine aromas of coffee and nuts. Good body and long-lasting finish.
Culinary recommendation
Our recommendation: The red wine tastes best at a slightly chilled 16°-18°C. The ideal enjoyment phase of this wine is in the following period: Now until 2022.

Each grape variety is harvested and vinified separately. The maceration period is 7 days. Each batch undergoes malolactic fermentation and matures for 24 months in 50% new French wooden barrels. The assemblage is then put together.
