About the wine
In our search for small, less well-known producers who produce exceptional wines, we came across Pago de Vallegarcía. The ambitious project was initiated by entrepreneur and wine lover Alfonso Cortina. When implementing his ideas, he really left nothing to chance. He has selected an exceptional spot of soil near Toledo, on the edge of the well-known nature reserve “Cabañeros”, and commissioned the well-known Australian winegrowing specialist Dr. Richard Smart to plant the vineyards. 31 hectares of land were planted with typical Bordeaux and Rhône grape varieties, which are located 850 m above sea level are located in the Montes de Toledo. The continental climate, with hot summers and cooler nights during the harvest phase, is perfect for the ripening of the grapes and the formation of aromas in the final stages of ripening. An ambitious, young team of oenologists and wine experts produces exceptionally harmonious and profound wines here, in a modern cellar complex, which are now among the best produced in the southern half of the Iberian Peninsula. Well-known wine critics such as Robert Parker and José Peñin have not been long in coming with top ratings.
